Alternatives
Filemail alternatives for large files
The best Filemail alternative for large files is Tranzfer if you want to send hundreds of gigabytes from a browser and have it resume, because Filemail lists resume as a desktop app feature. MASV is the pick if you want a desktop app and pay per GB. Stay with Filemail if you want files kept for good or client upload forms.
We make Tranzfer, so weigh our ranking with that in mind. Filemail is a solid service with a lot of features we don't have, and there's a section below on when it's the better choice. Every fact about another service links to the page it came from.
Why do people look for a Filemail alternative?
Resume lives in the app. Filemail's desktop app page sells it this way: "File transfer interrupted? Resume transfers instead of having to start again." It sits under a heading of benefits exclusive to the desktop app. We couldn't find a Filemail page that says a browser upload does the same. If the people sending you footage won't install anything, that matters. A 150 GB upload on a 50 Mbps line takes about 6 h 40 min at full speed, and a lot can go wrong in that time.
The cheaper plans are small. Filemail's free plan allows "up to 2 transfers within a 24-hour period" of up to 5 GB each, and keeps them for 7 days at most. Personal, at $6 a month, still stops at 5 GB a transfer. Pro, at $14, goes to 250 GB. Only Business, at $24, takes any size, according to their plan comparison.
Folders depend on the browser. Filemail's folder help page says to use Chrome or Opera. In any other browser you install the desktop app or zip the folder first. Zipping 300 GB of footage needs another 300 GB of free disk and a long wait before the upload even starts.

Which one should you pick?
- You send 50 GB to 3 TB from a browser and want a closed tab to cost you nothing: Tranzfer. Pro holds 1 TB live at once for $29 a month. That's $5 more than Filemail Business, and nobody installs anything.
- You want a desktop app and send irregularly: MASV, at $0.25 per GB after 15 GB free each month.
- You want the cheapest flat plan for occasional big sends: Smash Pro at $10 a month.
- Your recipients expect WeTransfer and you send a few gigabytes: WeTransfer.
Folders matter for photo and video work. Tranzfer sends whole folders with their structure intact, and on desktop Chrome and Edge your recipient saves the whole delivery into one folder with Download all.
When is Filemail still the better pick?
- You want files to stay up. Filemail Pro keeps transfers permanently, by their plan comparison. Tranzfer links last 14 days at most, then the files are deleted.
- You collect files from clients. Filemail lists file requests on Pro and up, and upload forms on Business. Tranzfer has no request or upload links.
- You want branding and download tracking. Filemail's plan comparison lists branding from Pro and download tracking on every paid plan.
- You're fine installing an app. Filemail's desktop app runs on PC, Mac and Linux and resumes interrupted transfers. Tranzfer has no desktop app.
- You need team seats. Filemail Business is multi-user. Tranzfer has no team seats.
